LANDMARK Tops Asia’s Dining Scene with Three of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants

Hongkong Land honoured to claim top culinary kudos in the iconic LANDMARK

27th February, 2013 – Following the success of garnering nine Michelin stars, the most Michelin stars under one roof in Hong Kong, LANDMARK continues to have some of the top restaurants in Asia. Amber was named The S.Pellegrino Best Restaurant in China, and ranked no. 4 on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, the highest rank among all western restaurants in Asia and the top of all restaurants in Hong Kong, followed by 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA (no. 6) and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon (no. 23).  The awards are sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna and organised by William Reed Business Media.

Following two consecutive years of recognition as the only restaurant in the Greater China region entering the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” Awards, Amber continues to shine as the “Best Restaurant in China” in the latest Asian edition of this renowned accolade. Culinary Director Richard Ekkebus impresses diners with his innovative take on modern French cuisine with classic preparations that use top ingredients from around the world. The Dutch-born chef has trained under Michelin-starred chefs such as Pierre Gagnaire, Alain Passard, Guy Savoy, Hans Snijders and Robert Kranenborg.

Ekkebus’ signature dishes include the sublime Hokkaido sea urchin in a lobster jell-O with cauliflower and caviar crispy seaweed waffles, langoustine in tomato and watermelon nage with coriander and peppers from Espelette, Bottarga-grated new potatoes bouillabaisse with manni olive oil emulsion and dessert of wild Malaga strawberries with green tea.

Chef Umberto Bombana’s 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA in LANDMARK ALEXANDRA retains its position in the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants as well as retaining its three Michelin stars rating, the only Italian restaurant outside of Italy to do so.  Additionally, in the Miele Guide 2013, it ranked 9th in Asia’s Top 20 Restaurants. In Hong Kong Bombana is known as the King of White Truffles and some of his top dishes include scrambled eggs with truffles and whipped potatoes with truffles.

Other signature items on the 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA menu include the tender Tajima short rib and beef tenderloin dressed with an intense red wine and plum sauce, and homemade tagliolini with perfectly cooked Boston lobster, botargo, arugula and sweet peppers.

Joël Robuchon is the most Michelin-starred chef in the world, and his Hong Kong outlet of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon at LANDMARK continues to be one of the finest French restaurants in the city with its ranking in the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The culinary team is headed by French Chef Olivier Elzer who has over 14 years of international culinary experience and expertise in French cooking. He began his culinary career in France in 1998 and has since worked with world-renowned chefs including Eric Briffard and Jean Yves Leuranguer. He was also the Sous chef of several Michelin-rated restaurants in France including Les Elysees in Paris and Hotel Restaurant La Pyramide F.Point in Vienne.

Signature dishes at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon include sea urchin in lobster jelly, topped with cauliflower cream, crispy langoustine papillote with basil, and free-range quail with foie gras, served with mashed potato.
