Hong Kong, 20 November 2024 – This holiday season, LANDMARK invites Hong Kong to an exceptional celebration of the art of gifting. In collaboration with world-renowned cultural curator Sarah Andelman, “Wrap It Up! A Christmas Atelier at LANDMARK” marks her first large-scale installation in Asia. Inspired by Sarah’s discerning global perspective, LANDMARK will be transformed into an enchanting ribbon-filled wonderland, breathing new life into the cherished tradition of gift wrapping in an immersive and unique manner. Beginning on 21 November, clients are invited to explore this festive atelier, discovering the true allure of gifting and the joy of turning each present into a thoughtful, heartfelt treasure.

Curated by Sarah Andelman—the cultural connoisseur known for her refined taste and innovative contributions to contemporary retail as the visionary behind Just An Idea and legendary Parisian concept store, Colette—LANDMARK proudly collaborates with ten internationally celebrated artists: Ceizer, Fenwan Chen, Forlee Bean, FriendsWithYou, Gabriela Noelle, Kasing Lung, Katerina Jebb, Mr.A, Nina Chanel Abney and Ribbonesia.

This illustrious alliance comes together to reimagine the very essence of gift wrapping, creating a series of meticulously designed experience zones, along with exclusive designer ribbon collections, and limited-edition collectibles, all curated for discerning LANDMARK customers. All visual elements and graphic design for this project have been crafted by the Parisian creative studio Faye and Gina, under Sarah Andelman’s artistic direction.

In Sarah’s words, “Collaborating with LANDMARK for my first large-scale installation in Asia was natural, as it stands out as a distinctive global destination in the dynamic heart of Hong Kong. The energy of this space aligns beautifully with my vision, offering a vibrant canvas for creativity and artistic expression. Together, we rekindle the joy of thoughtful gifting and create a magical experience that resonates with both locals and visitors alike.”

The Christmas Atelier Experience

Blending physical and digital elements, Sarah and the 10 artists have conjured 12 dynamic experience zones on stage, along with 6 more offstage experiences within LANDMARK ATRIUM. Guests will embark on a journey to explore the art of gifting in this immersive ribbon installation.

They’ll find delightful ribbon-themed games and interactive wonders, along with a range of personalised experiences onstage. Guests can design and print their own ribbons, and transform cheerful snapshots into custom postcards to share this joyful experience with someone special. Those who secure a spot in the exclusive Ribbonesia Workshop will have the opportunity to add personal touches to the hand-crafted ribbon ornaments by Japanese ribbon master Ribbonesia, bringing home a one-of-a-kind festive keepsake.

The popular character ‘Zimomo’ by Kasing Lung makes a grand entrance at the ‘Wrap It Up!’ installation at LANDMARK with an awe-inspiring, 2.5-metre-tall Christmas display, destined to be the holiday photo spot. Numerous stunning installations will also be unveiled throughout LANDMARK ATRIUM, both onstage and off. Whether posing with the giant pink cushion compact at The Beauty Spot, enjoying the Ribbon Dreams Swing or exploring the Ribbon Wonderland filled with Ribbonesia’s beautiful masterpieces, participants are guaranteed a picture-perfect moment. These unforgettable photo opportunities are sure to leave you with cherished memories that will sparkle long after the holiday season.

Mr. Alexander Li, Director and Head of Retail, Hong Kong & Macau, Hongkong Land Limited, says: “We are thrilled to be able to bring world-class visionaries such as Sarah Andelman to LANDMARK and Hong Kong – it demonstrates the continued attraction of this city as a globally recognised destination. This holiday season we invite clients to take the opportunity to immerse themselves in the essence and beauty of the art of gifting, from design to production, selection and purchase. Through our Atelier, we hope clients can use ribbons and wraps to add their own final and special touch for somebody they love.”

 24
Sarah Andelman

After studying Art History at the École du Louvre, Sarah Andelman co-founded Colette in Paris in 1997. For over 20 years, the store was renowned globally for its creativity and avant-garde curation at the intersection of style, design, art and food. After closing Colette in 2017, Andelman launched JUST AN IDEA, a consulting and curating company building bridges between disciplines, with expertise in brand collaborations and retail experiences. In 2021, she expanded her ventures by founding the publishing company JUST AN IDEA BOOKS. The collaboration with LANDMARK marks her first large-scale installation in Asia.

Partnering Artists

25

Ceizer

Ceizer is an Amsterdam-raised, Paris-based typographer and artist. Ceizer has a background in the skateboarding and graffiti scene of the mid 90s, spending most of his youth at the old Museumplein skate spot of Amsterdam. Known for his witty line and letter drawings, as well as colourful abstract works on canvas, wood and metal. Ceizer’s choice of words, phrases and subject matter are empowering, humoristic and poetic.

26 Fenwan Chen

Chen Fenwan is an artist who bridges traditional Chinese paper-cutting techniques with contemporary artistic expression. The media has hailed her as a “top paper-cutting artist of the post-90s generation”. Her work explores paper as a creative medium, transcending conventional boundaries to create narratives unbounded by spatial constraints. For Chen, paper-cutting represents both a technical skill and a contemporary conceptual approach. She is known for weaving intimate personal experiences with collective memories, creating works that resonate with shared emotional experiences while engaging in dialogue across multiple dimensions and audiences.

 27 Forlee Bean

Forlee Bean is a Hong-Kong based designer and illustrator who loves and grew up with skateboard culture. He created a character named Cat Skateboard “Catsk8”, and shares messages about skateboarding and other interesting things in daily life through drawings, animation and  social media. His collection of merchandise, including but not limited to T-shirts, tote bags, stickers and cushions can be found at www.catsk8.com and”Mise en page” Le Bon Marché.

 28

FriendsWithYou

FriendsWithYou is the collaborative art project of Los Angeles-based artists Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, working collectively since 2002 to create modern modes of spirituality with the mission of having a positive impact on our world. Their artwork has been materialised as experiences, immersive installations, sculptures, paintings, animation and live performances. Through their work, we connect to ourselves and each other, spreading friendship, building community and deepening our relationship with the natural world.

 29

Gabriela Noelle

Cuban-American artist, Gabriela Noelle creates playable art and interactive objects inspired by childhood. From functional pieces like indoor swings to three-dimensional sculptures in public spaces, all pieces inspire the viewer to see the world through the eyes of a child. This childlike perspective prompts the viewer to use their imagination, exercise curiosity and create a bond with their environment.

Gabriela views her work in lucite, mixed media and textiles as a practice in preservation, serving to document our time on Earth for future generations.

 30

Kasing Lung

Born in Hong Kong in 1972, Kasing Lung started his collaboration with How2work in Hong Kong as an illustrator in 2011, releasing illustrated story books and a series of collectible figures. In 2015, Lung began producing the story series “The Monsters,” which was strongly influenced by Nordic mythology. A series of figures under the same title has been released from How2work and, among them, the rabbit-ear character “Labubu” gained tremendous popularity and has been released in more than 300 colours, shapes and sizes. In recent years, Lung has been based in Hong Kong and Belgium, focusing on producing paintings.

 31

Katerina Jebb

Katerina Jebb, born in England in 1962, began her artistic journey with photomontages created through repeated exposure of a single roll of film. After relocating to Paris in 1989, she explored experimental photography using photocopy machines to produce life-size images, primarily self-portraits, by lying on high- resolution scanners. This method, which involved long exposure times requiring subjects to remain motionless, led to a unique visual medium that gained recognition in museums, including The Whitney Museum in 1998 as part of The Warhol Look retrospective. Jebb’s work is included in the permanent collections of The Victoria & Albert Museum, Le Musée des Arts Decoratifs Paris and Musée Réattu Arles.

 32

Mr.A

Graffiti was the first way in which artist André Saraiva made his mark on the world. André was born in Uppsala, Sweden, and grew up in Paris tagging his name on the neighbourhood walls. There was a significant turning point in the history of street art, when André introduced a character into his graffiti – the cheerful, top-hatted stick figure, and now iconic MR.A. As the first graffiti artist to paint a character in place of the traditional tag name, he quickly became known as Paris’ most active street artist. Since then, Mr. A has been painted over 300,000 times across six continents. André and his signature character have both appeared in many global brand collaborations and campaigns for over 30 years.

33

Nina Chanel Abney

Combining representation and abstraction, Nina Chanel Abney’s paintings capture the frenetic pace of contemporary culture. Broaching subjects as diverse as race, celebrity, religion, politics, sex and art history, her works eschew linear storytelling in lieu of disjointed narratives. The effect is information overload, balanced with a kind of spontaneous order, where time and space are compressed, and identity is interchangeable. Her distinctively bold style harnesses the flux and simultaneity that has come to define life in the 21st century. Paying homage to the sophisticated colour theories of Matisse, continuing the legacy of Cubists, Picasso and Léger, and connecting with the synesthetic sensibilities of Harlem Renaissance greats, Douglas and Lawrence, Abney brings these historical movements into contemporary pertinence.

 34

RIBBONESIA

RIBBONESIA is an artist duo formed in 2010 by artist Baku Maeda and director Toru Yoshikawa. Ribbon has long been a symbolic medium for expressing emotions and connecting people, and today, it is commonly used in everyday life to wrap gifts or as a decorative material.

RIBBONESIA creations focus on the shapes found in nature, where they find an essential beauty in the balance between regularity and complexity. Through their work, they aim to express the moments when the meeting of nature and beauty connects with the laws of the cosmos, expanding into something beyond.
